Daycare and boarding FAQ

What if my dog needs medication during their time at Home Sweet Home?

We can administer a wide variety of medications to your dog while they’re with us, including some injections.

Please go over your dog's medication needs during the introduction and again each time you drop your dog off.

What do you do on days that it is very cold, hot, or raining?

During extreme temperatures, such as below 20°F or above 90°F, we advise calling ahead to ensure that we are able to accommodate your dog(s).

Dogs are rotated through various indoor and outdoor play areas, and are given access to those spaces through doors and doggy doors. During heat/cold advisories, or when temperatures are too extreme for dogs, we may choose to use a more regimented routine of rotating the dogs through those indoor and outdoor spaces and closing doors to keep indoor temperatures regulated.

When it’s raining, we also may choose to rotate dogs in a more methodical way. Although we do our best to minimize access to places that may become muddy, your dogs may get dirty while playing here. We ask that you please plan accordingly on days that it is expected to rain.

What happens if I forget to bring food for my dog’s boarding stay or they run out of food while boarding?

We always recommend packing a little extra food for boarding stays, however if they do run out we offer house food for a $1/cup. As such, it is important to always inform our staff of any allergies your dog may have, especially food allergies!

If we notice that a dog will run out of food before their boarding stay is over, we will communicate with the owner and create a plan of action.

How far ahead of time do I need to schedule a boarding stay?

During non-holiday months, we can usually accommodate same week or following week reservations.

During holiday months, our boarding spots fill up quickly and we recommend scheduling several months in advance.

*We prefer to have more than a days notice, but in emergency situations we will always do what we can to accommodate your pup. Please give us a call if you need to discuss last-minute options.

What do you do if there is a fight?

We work hard to manage the packs to prevent incidents of violence. Fights are best dealt with before they start by reading and anticipating the behavior of the dogs in the pack. We can move dogs around to different packs, separate certain dogs that are bothering each other and use “time-outs” among other things to keep the packs safe.

In the event that there is a fight between dogs, the staff is trained to intervene and stop the fight and assess each dog to determine if there are any injuries. If there is an injury we will notify the owner and seek the proper veterinary care.

What do you do if there is an injury or a dog is sick?

If there is an injury to a dog in the course of a day, we will notify the owner immediately and proceed from there at the owner's discretion. If we are unable to get a hold of the owner, we will make medical decisions in the best interest of the dog.

If we notice signs that a dog might be sick, we will separate them from the packs and determine whether or not they are sick or maybe just in need of a break.

If we believe that a dog may be sick, we will call the owner to create a plan of action. Every dog here is important to us and every dog will be treated as if they were our very own.
